Attractions and Activities are
Limitless in and around Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island!
Best Time to Come
While it's lovely during the spring season -- with a
laid back island atmosphere that attracts tourists to its white-sand beaches --
Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island excel as a year
round vacation spot. With more than 60 area golf courses, miles of crowd free,
white sand beaches, family and senior-friendly attractions and entertainment,
it's a super place for folks able to take a short summer break, or escape the
frigid north for the whole winter! Want the same weather as March and
April? Then visit us in November and
December! The only difference is that you will have to LOOK for people.
Weather
Daytime highs hit the middle to high 90s starting in August through early
October. Though a little warm during the day, so is everywhere else! What they don't have is the Gulf of Mexico to cool off
in. November through the middle of
January temperatures drop to the upper 70s to low 80s during the day, rarely
dipping below 60 degrees at night.
During the latter part of January through the beginning of March,
daytime temperatures can vary between the middle 50s to the middle 80s. Cooler at night, with temperatures often
dipping into the 40s, you very rarely will see freezing weather because of the
close proximity to, and abundance of, water all around. March through May, our busiest season on the
islands, warms back up to the high 70s to high 80s during the day, with
comfortable 60s and 70s at night. Summer
comes in June with highs in the high 80s and lows in the 70s and by July we are
back to the 90s during the day, and 80s at night. With a wealth of sunny days
this area averages over 300 annual days of sunshine.
Transportation
The best way to get around the area is by car. Airport arrivals can pick up
rental cars there. Public bus service schedules and information are available. Anna Maria Island boasts a free
trolley service which traverses the whole island, and is a delight to
youngsters and seniors alike.
Costs
Restaurant costs are consistent with other resort areas and their high tourist
seasons. Off season prices on the islands are consistent with diminished
visitor population and varying climate. A moderately priced lunch will run in
the six through ten-dollar range. Movies and other amenities off the islands
are consistent with prices throughout the Southeast. If you are renting one of
our vacation properties, local grocery and specialty store prices are slightly
higher than on the mainland.
